Movie Poster Research and Ideas

I have done some research into a lot of different film posters and DVD covers and have found that most films have a few different photographs for their posters.  The main poster usually includes the main characters and some sort of hint of what the film may include. It may also include a tag line giving more of an idea of what the film is about.
I looked at some 'Twilight' posters and found that there were quite a few different photographs.
Most of these include the two main characters from the film, most of these posters also include the tag line "When you can live forever, What do you live for?"

However, after more research I found that there are a lot of posters including most of the main cast of the film with a different tag line being 'Nothing will be the same'. After looking at these we decided that it would be a good idea for us to have a tag line to go on to our poster.

I have also looked into the posters for the film 'G.I.Joe' and saw that they had posters of characters indivually. There are two different types of individual posters showing the main characters. The first one that I found included the character, his character name, the title of the film and the year of it's release. To me this is a very good poster because before even knowing the story of the film, we are introduced to the character. We can establish who might be the good and bad characters. I also like the way that the photo is mostly black, this really makes the title stand out so that the targeted audience can know exactly what the film is called so that they can make sure to look out for more information about it.
I also found this character picture from the same film, however I prefer the other poster because I like the way that it was very dark, making the title stand out. I also like the way that it gives us the release date and the name of the character, whereas this poster does not provide this, it only shows the title. Giving the name of the character shown almost forms a connection to the character with the audience, we want to look out for the character when going to see the film to indentify whether he is on the good side or the bad.

I also like this poster of 'Inglorious B*****ds' because it gives us all the important information about the film, for example, the title, date and also a tag line, that the other posters did not include. I really like this poster because although it does not include any of the characters, in a group or individually, I think that it is very effective. I think that it leaves the audience guessing on what the story could be about and although the tag line gives us an indication we still don't know. This is what makes the audience so intrigued to see the film.

After looking into all these posters we have brainstormed what we would like our film poster to be like. We are obviously gonig to include the main information (title, release date etc.) as we want to make it look as authentic as possible. We also decided that we would like to do a number of posters. As the main male character is not really revealed in the trailer, we thought about whether to have him in the poster or in his own poster, so we decided that maybe it would be appropriate to have an 'Inglorious B*****ds' style poster to keep the audience guessing. I also think that it would be best to have a tag line for our poster to give us an indication of what the film might be about.
